UNITED NATIONS FOUNDATION

The United Nations foundation has been operational since 1998 after it was launched to support the operation and activities of the UN. The foundation connects the UN with other organizations, governments and institutions in a number of activities that include peacekeeping, overseeing elections and creating stability and peace in the world. The foundation is important in organizing resources that fund the objectives and the goals of the UN. Its head offices are located in Washington and New York in United States (UN foundation website, 2016).

The organization regularly updates its vacant positions through its website where qualified candidates can apply. Several careers are available in the organization as part-time, fulltime and consultants employment opportunities. Every department of the organization posts its vacant positions where they are advertised by the organization’s careers department. The successful candidates are shortlisted, interviewed and then appointed to begin working in their respective departments. The company also offers internship opportunities where people apply and join to gain experience of working with the foundation through both paid and unpaid programs. The internships depend on the positions available in each department and mainly enroll degree graduates.
Ted turner is the founder of the United Nations foundations. The foundation programs make it even more appealing. It collaborates with the United Nations in its efforts to solve global challenges in diverse sectors like health, education, justice, peace, hunger and population control. The foundations play a significant role in connecting these functions of the United Nations to people and countries that require attention. The foundation also provides sponsorship and from the United Nations programs and agencies. In addition, it sources for funding from other organization with the aim of supporting UN initiatives (Fall & Zahran, 2010).
The foundation maintains its employees through a series of motivations and incentives. United Nations foundation employees are entitled to an annual leave of four months. They are also offered 10 days pf sick leave, 12 paid foe holidays and 3 personal days. The foundation also attractive health and dental insurance plans for its employees that ensures they are covered against such risks. It also budgets for employer matching programs, which are important in maintaining a healthy relationship between the employers and the employee. The foundation’s employees who are parents are granted parental leave, which is up to eight weeks and paid. The foundation offers the best medical insurance cover for its employees. The insurance cover extends to vision insurance, dental insurance, and life cover insurance, disability insurance among other attractive benefits. In addition, the foundation has employee assistance program, which provides confidential aid to employees who have who have large burdens in their homes or supporting a large number of dependents.
The foundation does not allow various practices and behavior for specific and general reasons. The foundation has zero tolerance policy to corruption. This is to maintain the integrity of the foundation in its programs and policies. The company also does not allow its directors direct compensation for services that are offered in line with the requirements of their work. These services include allowances for attending board meetings, or allowances in which the employees are acting on behalf of the foundation or its responsibilities during the time of duty. The foundation also prohibits advancement of loans to its directors. This is to prevent the favoritism and compromise of the foundations procedures in its financial responsibilities. Employees are not exempted from paying necessary taxes as it may apply in their regions of jurisdiction. The foundation uses similar policies that those of the UN (Reinicke et.al, 2000).
The foundation has set various goals and objectives that are relative to those of the UN. As the foundations core responsibility is to support the UN in achieving its initiatives (Sills, 2002), the foundation sets specific goals on how it will achieve those obligations. Among the most prominent goals set by the foundation, include the sustainable development goals, millennium development goals, elimination of measles. The MDGs were focused on eradicating poverty and hunger by the years 2015. It also included achieving universal primary education for both girls and boys. They also sought to promote the gender equality and women empowerment in the society. It also included reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, sustainable environment and global partnership for development.
The foundation has not taboos. However, there are things that are not allowed as discrimination based on gender, sex, race, ethnicity, and disabilities. The foundation prioritizes on granting equal opportunities for its employees and in its programs. All its programs are given equal opportunities irrespective of which part of the world they are based and who are the beneficially. This is because the operations and the activities of the foundation are not for profit.
Since 1998 when the organization was founded by Ted turner, it has made significant impact on the climate change as prioritized by the United Nations. It has also played a significant role if fighting malaria in Africa by donations of mosquito nets, drugs and improvement of health facilities to reduce deaths resulting from malaria. Turner, who is the founder and its chairperson, has won numerous ward on philanthropy for his efforts in helping better the lives of humanity through the United Nations foundation.
